David Lazarus, artist and scrimshaw carver from Nantucket, gives a talk on the history of scrimshaw carving from Nantucket’s extensive history of carving to modern ecological concerns over the importation of ivory and use of alternative materials. The lecture will be followed by a Pop Up Studio from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., where David Lazarus will demonstrate scrimshaw techniques with hands-on activities for all ages.
